What are Broken Capillaries?
A capillary is a small blood vessel, which are found all over the body. When a blood vessel breaks just under the surface of the skin, it can leave red lines, which cause blemishes. While most causes of a broken capillary are not serious or painful, many people don’t like the appearance of the broken blood vessel on their skin.
Broken capillaries are often called spider veins, but their medical name is telangiectasia. The tiny reddish or purple veins have a threadlike appearance and are located just below the skin’s surface. They occur when the blood vessels widen and then suddenly narrow, which causes damage.
The diluted veins do not disappear and are easy to see. They look like small blood spots or small tree branches.
